Each necklace features a gorgeous antique silver Yemeni ball mounted on a braided strand of stone and finished with a soft handmade deerskin leather tassel.

Yemenite silver is the work of highly skilled Jewish silversmiths dating back to the mid 1700s. The profession was regarded as impure for Muslims and thus held almost exclusively by Jews living in traditional Yemen society. They became renowned for their craftsmanship and intricate use of fine granulation and filigree techniques.
The Yemeni ball is one such example of this work. Traditionally Bedouin brides would wear large strands of these beads layered along with other elaborate amulets, as the amount of jewelry worn by a woman was often seen as an indicator of her status.

When the nation of Israel was formed in 1948 almost all of these jewelers emigrated, making these antique Yemenite silver pieces exceedingly rare and harder to find.
